“Show me your original face before you were born.” - Zen koan
We all wear two masks – the one we show to the world and the one that stares back at us in the mirror. Both are illusions. Painting self- portraits has been an act of removing both of these masks. It is a lifelong process; one that I will continue as long as I put paint to canvas. With each painting, one thin layer of the masks come off. Hopefully one day, I will be able to paint my original face.
